Dollar Tree National Roll Out

Client: Dollar Tree, Inc.
Projects: Permit Advisors was tasked with obtaining building permits for 132 stores in three separate states nationwide from 2009 – present.
Locations: The projects were located in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
Overview: With a large variety of products and prices available for $1 or less, Dollar Tree has encountered a great deal of success, even opening its 15,000th store in 2018. As Dollar Tree increases its presence in the United States, Permit Advisors has supported in expediting the permitting process on over one hundred of its construction projects.
Scope of Work: The scope of work included tenant improvements to existing buildings to better fit Dollar Tree’s needs. This work involved updates to many mechanical, electrical, and plumbing fixtures which in-turn required permits. Other requirements included environmental health permits, fire reviews, disabled access reviews
and more.

Challenges

Dollar Tree often moved into parts of existing buildings that required many upgrades. Oftentimes buildings were not up to ADA standards and needed considerable updates. Furthermore, Dollar Tree often acted a sub-leasor; therefore there were typically additional parties that needed to be involved in the process such as the tenants and landlords.

Strategies Employed by Permit Advisors

  • Researched and outlined all project submittal requirements for client
  • Acted as a point of contact between the municipality, Dollar Tree, and all other relevant parties
  • Performed frequent follow-ups with Plan Reviewers on behalf of client
  • Negotiated shorter review times whenever possible
  • Consistently updated clients with timelines and updates

Outcome

Permit Advisors helped keep Dollar Tree store openings on schedule allowing them to generate sales faster. Permit Advisors and Dollar Tree continue to work together on numerour projects.
